I have been in the fitness industry for a few years now and golf fitness is really getting popular. Golf is the one sport that about 1 million different product out there claiming it will help imporove your golf game. A lot of people get on a fitness program (most of the time designed by a professional fitness trainer) looking to get in shape for a sport or to increase their performance in one sport. If you talk to any golfer, odds are that they do not have any type of fitness program.

If you are a golfer, the last few years have been a time where the top golfers in the world are all getting to fitness to help their golf game. Why is this? Reporters even threw the possibility out that Tiger Woods may be on Steroids because he looks so jacked. When you break the golf swing down, your body uses so much energy, so many muscles, that it would be dumb not to see the correlation between golf and fitness. If you watched the PGA Champoinship in blazing hot Tulsa, you noticed that Tiger seemed to not even budge from the Sweat pouring out from his body. It was clear to see that fitness and being in shape played a key role in the PGA Championship. John Daley was doing great after day 1. He mentioned on the post interview that he did not drink water (even though every single system in your body needs H2O to function) and only had cokes and cigs all day. Needless to say, John did not make it in the heat all weekend.

Balance, Strength, Core, Flexibility, Spine Angle, Alignment. These are all words you hear the announcers say while on TV. Being in fitness and knowing a lot about how the body works, I know what they are talking about. Can you balance on one leg? How does that have to do with the golf swing? Fitness should be a part of your routine even if you only play golf once every month or two. If I had a dime for each story I hear about some getting hurt while playing golf, I would be doing alright. When you are using as many muscles as the golf swing requires, it is just a matter of time that one muscle gives out because it is weak.

I have been training Golf Specific Fitness for some time now, and the main reason why people come in is because they want to get better at golf. The main thing I hear after a month of working with them, though, is how much better they feel. Their core can hold their back up. Their back does not ache after playing a round of golf. The nutrition plans I help my clients with are just another added bonus. Helping someone with a nutrition plan that will help someone focus more. Do you think that has any corelation to playing golf? I will just let you know that answer, yes.

For those of you that are golfers, I get the honor to go to the PGA tournament tomorrow and get to walk with the likes of the best golfers in the world. Here is the story on how.

I got the chance to interview Bobby Lane for my Get You In Shape DVD. I interviewed 11 guests to appear on my fitness and exercise dvd. Each guest was/is at the top of their field. I intervied nutritionist, fitness professionals, and a few doctor’s. I put together the top 25 minutes and put that as a bonus on the fitness dvd. I was interested in meeting a golf fitness specialist and was given the name bobby name by a number of people in the golf industry. Bobby trained under the first Personal trainer that trained the PGA players. He has mastered the biomechanics of the golf swing and the muscles involved.
I was so intersted in the sport specific training that for the last 6 months I have been learning his program and am inplementing on my own training clients. Bobby has owns a nice private fitness facility in Dallas, TX called www.alignperformace.com . I decided that I wanted to bring all my clients there because it is in a great facility in a perfect location.

What does that have to do with the PGA tournament?? Bobby is a 3rd generation PGA Member and is trying to get this great fitness program into the PGA. Fitness in golf is growing and a lot of trainers are not aware of how the muscles relate to the golf swing, spine angle, and proper alignment.
I will write a little more about it later.
